After the christening ceremony the vessel travelled gently down the slipway, and entered the water to the accompani- ment of friendly sirens, cheering, and bursting crackers. She was afterwards taken in tow and moored alongside the wharf.

The Hon. Mr. A. Q., Lang, replying to the toast of the Sui Sung stated that, itai. as a Director of the Indo-China Co. for several years, he could testify to the excel lent construction of the ships built at the Kowloon Dock.. The very fact that in addition to the Sai Sang another vessel had been laid dow, and yet another was
The accused's defence was that the nearing completion, far the Indo-China Steam Navigation Company, bore elo-complainant injured himself by falling quent testimony to the high opinion he over some led-boards. and his fellow-directors entertained of the quality of the steamers turned out by this Dockyard. Mr. Bernard had said the Su Seng would run between Hongkong and Manila. She was particularly well suited for the run, and special arrangements had been introduced into her design to enpe efficiently with the perishable goods traf that route, and he trusted their Chinese supporters would make note of that fact.
She was, farthermore, well fitted for passenger work, and, having a good turn of speed, should prove popular to the travelling public.
Mr. Lang took the opportunity.ol_re- ferring to the Loong Sang tragedy. The vessel was, he said, for many years in the Indo-China line, and he wished to express the deep sympathy felt by the Directors with those who lost relatives and friends in the catastrophe. The General Mas- agers wished him to express their thanks and appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the Naval authorities on this secasion, and for their valued en-operation in searching for survivors afterwards. Mr. Lang then asked the gathering to join, him in wishing all good fortune to the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Co., Ltd.
Mr. E. Cock replied that the Dock Com- pany and the Indo-China Company arched side by side, and it was fitting. therefore, for him to express to that Com pany and its officers, whose gallantry had been shewn in the recent enlamities. the Dock Co.'s sorrow and sympathy in the losses of life and property they had recently sustained. The last two months had been very trying for the Dock Com- pany's staff, who had all done their best for the safety and security of the vessels, in their charge, and froin the kind way in which the toast of the Dork Company had been accepted, he concluded that their efforts did not pass unrecognised. It was his pleasant luty to propose the health of the guests, and he was proud to be able to couple with this toast the name of Commodore Grace, whose inter est and-geniality were such a feature of all meetings, whether concerned with work or play, in Hongkong,
Commodore Grace, in bis, response, thanked Mr. Lang for the kind remarks he had made about the little help the Navy had been able to render during the recent typhoon, which had clearly-demon-- strated that the most serious disasters were possible despite every precaution. Britons had justly won fame as seame and he trusted they would ever maintain their, 'name In these day of skill and science it was most necessary that the prestige of the.
