"AUSTRALIA'S REVENUE
SURPLUS..
LOSS ON THE SHIPPING LINE.
It was announced on July 4th that the Commonwealth revenue for the year was estimated at £63,837,000, and the expendi ture at 162,571,000, the year'a surplus: being £1,200,000, making an necumulated surplus of £7,675,000.
In the House of Represuntatives Mr. Bruce, the Prime Minister, moving the second reading of the Commonwealth Slipping Line Bill, said the Line's net lows since its inauguration had been £2,615,000, which compare favourably with the United State Jone of £500,000,000. The present book value of the Commonwealth Line was £12,750,000, which had been written down to under £4,750,000.
hir. Bruce added that the Board® which will control, the. Line will take the ships nt a valuation of £1,700,000, payable in bonds at 5 per cent. interest, with power to well unsuitable ships and buy new ships-Iteuter.
