SHIPS SAFE ROBBED. LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY STOLEN

·FROM AMERICAN. SHIP. Yesterday morning the sin. West Jessop, belonging to the Columbia Pacific Steam ship Company, arrived in port from Shanghai and her master, Captain Robert Wilson, reported to the Polier that the ship's safe had been robbed of $850 (US currency). The money was all in now unused bank notes. The numbers of the missing notes have been given to the Police.

The theft was discovered on the day the vessel left Shanghai "for Hongkong, when the sale door was found open and the money gone.
