in this particular, and especiallyriate to the relations of the sexes. It was only in the marriage service that so unlimited and absolute a vow was demanded. It had been interpreted to admit the right of the busband to decide a point which Nature, except in the case of intų had always left to the females. She pleaded

Mrs. Creighton said that trae marriage a partnership and comradeship, in which cach takes and, each gives. The question of obedience hardly came into it at all. She thought the giving of a ring to the man in marriage might sometimes be to him the same sort of protection that the ring was to a woman.

WOMEN AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS.

Speaking at a women's mass inceling at Lewisham on June 15th, under tho auspices of the East Lewisham Women's Municipal Society and Citizens Associa tion, Mrs. Lloyd George said women could ot make the best us of the advantages they now had unless they carefully studied questions of the day. These questions to a very large extent, either directly or in- directly, touched the homes of the people. Women ought to stand together on some of those questions even if they belonged to different partisan polities, because there were so many problems upon which they could bring their great influence and weight more effectively to bear than if they were divided. Unity in these matters was strength.

Miss Lena Ashwel said they but no danbt read in the Press about the "stuut" for removing the word "servant" from the English language. "I belonged to that proud curamunity who are servants of the public, she said. I think the biggest. word in the whole of the British language is the word 'servant, and we women know a good deal about that word, and we are not going to cease to be proud he Cause of this sort of Press stunt, (Laughter.) The first servant of the country is the Prime Minister, and some time ahead there will be that fearful woman Prime Minister," Loud laughter.y
