About midday last Thursday (19th ult.) the first news was heard of the mishap to the new Blue Funnel ship Rhezenar, which, in the blinding rain and mist, had gone ashore on the Bhikoku const close to Obama, the telegram coming from the adjacent town of Imabark: This is a narrow channel in the Inland Sea passage about 150 miles from Kobe, whore the ships coming up from Moji turn almost south between Oshima and the coast, and the currents are extremely strong and perplexingly variable. When Mesara. Nickel & Lyons received the tele gram, with a request for amistance, they got two steam tūgs and six lighters and. started them down the Inland Set by six o'clock.
Assembling ball-a-dozen more lighters and a couple more tugs, they sent three out to meet the Peleus, which, on her way from Yokohama, to Miike, had been summoned by wireless to land hand. The captain of the Peteus decided that he had better take only, one tug and three lighters in tow, but, on the way down, the 'eleus overtook the first batch, and took the whole lot in tow hauling them through the water at a speed of "over ten kuots.
