A COLLISION IN THE ELBE.

The Hamburg Maritime Court has given indgment in the case of the colli sion, during foggy weather on ound last, near the Elbe IF. Light

between the Japanese steamer Lisbon Mar belonging to the Nippon Yusen Kaisha, and the British steamer Elwick. The court found the Elvirk was to blema for the collision because her pilot and second officer gave different signals, which, in ennsequence, were misunderstood by the Lisbon Maru. As the navigation of the Elwick up to the time of the accident was in the hands of her pilot, the second officer was to blame for interrupting him when he

wa signalling. The Žlabon Mary was also to blame for proceeding too fast in view of the foggy weather and also for not stopping when one of the answering signals made by the Buick bad been repeated and was understood.
