SHIPPING MOVEMENTS.
The P. & C. B.3. Maatua arrived at London on December 2nd.
The motor-ship serma destined to be- come more and more popular as both cargo and passenger carrier. It costs less to operate than one propelled by steam aud burning either coal or oil. The motor ships in cleaner than a cual burner, because there are no cinders or soot to worry the passengers A larger skilled engine-room force, Rad a smaller unskilled crew taken care of the motors,
The Domala: carries ten engineers and two electricians, againgh' eight men carried by a steamer of the BILME 8128. Only 91 Indian engineering crow are required, instead of 43 for a steamer.
The Domata has an eliptical fupaol which is merely a piece of scenery to carry the two white stripes of the B.I.S.N. Danish motor ships have no funnels, and the Domala's, which is so narrow that it can scarcely be seen by a person looking at it end on, is not essential.
וי
But we had to have it to put the white stripes on, said the chief engineer. A B.1. ship wouldn't go without the stripes.
The Domain can carry enough fuel to make the trip out and return, but in: order to have a reserve on hand, the ship bunkers at Aden coming and going.
