SHIPPING MOVEMENTS.
The R.MS. Empress of Russia arrived at Shanghai on September 22nd, 2.30 p.m., leaves Shanghai on September 3rd, 11 a., and is due at Manila on September 26tb, 6 m.
Oriental manager of the Board, "says, will I started again as 5000 as card ton-(8 Indo-China is sufficient to make the service profitable. He has just returned from an inspection rip of that shipping field.
The Shipipug Board will temporarily send Amefieun cargo carriers to such ports na have sufficient America-bound cargo to warrant the trips. This will be done until business improvements in the shipping' district of India and Indo-Chinn make a more complete service possible. Carrying direct from the United States to these ports will then he resumed, Mr. Morton stated.
Mr. Morton declared that the ship subsidy would enable Ainerican ships to enter these fields and survive the period during which they might have to compete at a loss for trade which would eventually prove highly profitable. He also stated that the purchase of the additional ships needed for such s service would be made possible by the abip subsidy bill. Any small losses sustained at first in getting the trade, be said, would be negligide compared to the large profits which could be made under normal conditions in the Far East shipping feld.
