SHIPPING NOTES
The new geared turbine cargo steamer Tungchow, of 3,500 tons gross register, launched in July by Scott's Shipbuilding and Engineering Company, Greenock, for the China Steam Navigation. Company, ran trials on the Clyde in the early days of last month.
The 8.8. Maiura, built for, the British Ladia Steam Navigation Company by Mesars. Barclay, Curle & Co., was launch- ed from the Scotstoun yard on the Clyde, The vessel is intermediate cargo and pas senger, and will have twin-screw turbine engines of the Brown Curtis double reduc tion
geared typo, capable of developing a ses speed of 14 knots. The boilers and bunkers are so arranged that the vessel can work either on coal or on oil fuel. Accommodation is provided for 105 first- class and 41 second-class passengers, "the. Inchcare system of inner rooms being adopted so as to give the maximum fight ing to living space
