A NEW RELIGION FROM AMERICA.
Mr. F. T. A. Davies is the apostle of a universal religion, which comprises all sects and denominations. He has been in communication with exalted beings of the spirit world, even with the builder of the Great Pyramid.
Mr. Davies, who wore a yellow tie as well as a purple ribbon round his neck, the latter supporting a silver pyramid surmounted by a crown, pleasantly thrill- ed an audience at the hall of the In- stitute of Journalists. on September End, when he explained the new universal re- ligion and introduced the new univeras! Bible, written in American in 1882.
He had also, he said, years of mystic training.
Mr. Davies knows better than the scientists, who estimate the age of the world at hundreds of thillions of years, He makes a modest computation of 6,000 jears; but, be added, he had it on the best information from the most exalted beings that the world was preparing to receive humanity for 9,000,000 years.
The world was apparently disappoint- ed with humanity when it did arrive, be- cause the Flood occurred not so very long afterwards. Noah's Ark, was really four fleets of thirty-four ships apiece, and 12,000 people were blown to all parts of the world, some to Egypt, some to China, and others to Japan, but nothing was said about the Scilly Isles or Scotland.
The upshot of all this blowing about of the 12,000 was that we are all of the same family and that Christians, Jewe Brahmins, Baddhists, and every religion ander the sun are essentally the same. Hence the Kosmon Bible, which was com. piled by Mr. J. Newborcugh, an Ame- rica

MAY A MINISTER SWEAR? BLUNT PASTOR ACCUSED OF.
PULPIT PROFANITY.
If a minister thinks a man is a Asun fool he has just as much right to say so as any one else.
This sentiment, as expressed by the Rev. Dr. WT. McElveen, is one of the principal causes of his radical diangree- ment with the First Congregational Church of Portland, Oregon, USA.
was
the
Profanity and roughness "* charge brought against Dr. McElveen, which had its outcome in a request from church officials that he should tender his resignation.
The issue is simply one of method." says Dr. McElveen. Some people like the milk-and-water way of preaching Christianity, but I do not.
"I was also criticised for endorsing the campaign being waged by the. Y.W.C.A. for higher wages for girls.
I declared that women should ciga enough money to make it unnecessary for them to depend on their gentlemen friends. They called that roughness.
"I also admit the charge that I told a young woman at a church social to go home and put on some more clothes. was the host, and who would have a bet- ter right to give a young woman advice if her parents had not sense enough to give it themselves?"
DEAD BODY GROWS WARMER,
PHENOMENON EXPLAINED BY
DOCTORS.
The temperature of the human body will, in certain circumstances, rise for a time after death.'
This fact was revealed during an in- quest at Shoreditch on September 28th, on a Hoxton woman named Catherine Balbi, who died from heart trouble and neuritis.
A nurse, who noticed that three hours after death the body was unusually warm, took the temperature, and found it had risen from 103 to 106 degs...
"There are several recorded cases of this phenomenon," said Dr. Edwin Smith, the coroner-hd-This-"increase of tempe rature after death is due to some chem- ical activity, caused perhaps by a microbe in the body. I had a case of. Hunstroke in which the temperature after death rose from 105 to 109."
Other doctors confirm this view.
A rise in temperature after death is not unusual in cases of the cholera type," Raid an official of Westminster Hospital to a Day Exprces representative. The beat of the outer part of the body at death is often subnormal, but there is in- tense heat in the intestines, and after death-this-heat disperses-over-the-body, causing the temperature of the skin to rise."-Express,

THE WIFE - BEATER,
A dew method of punishment for wife beaters has been devised by the citizens of Tennant, New Jersey.
A few weeks ago a farmer, named Wesley Smith, was fiand in the police court for ill-treating his wife. Recently.
a party of five masked men seized Smith in a lonely spot, bound him, and tied him to the tail of a Ford car. He was then dragged along the roads a consider. able distance. His tormentors finally re. leased him, poured a quantity of tar over him, and left him in the road.
Smith was badly hurt and will prob ably lose the sight of one eye,
