SHIPPING MOVEMENTS.

The 8.8. Theseus (Blue Funnel line) "loft Shanghai on September 29th for Liver pool vid Havre. The vessel is due here on October Lat, and will sail on October 3rd.

The R.M.S. Monteagle "left" Vancouver for Hongkong, vid Japan ports and Shanghai on September 24th, and is dua here on or about October 20th.

The P. & O. &s. Karmala is expected to leave Singapore for Hongkong on October 4th.

The R.M.S. Empress of Russia arrived at Kabe on September 28th, at 7 am. left at noon the same day, and was due at Nagasaki on September 29th, at 10 am.

The Pacific Mail as. Golden State left Manila, on Wednesday, at 5 p.m., and is dus at daylight to-day. It is expected that she will be despatched on Wednes day noon, October 5th.

The se Tyndareus (Blue Furasi line) left Manila on September 19th for Hong kong, and is due here on October 1st.

The T.K.K. S... Persia Afara arrived at Yokohama on September 28th, and sails on September 30th, being due at Hong bong on October 9th.

A TYNE-BUILT TANK VESSEL FOR THE PHILIPPINES.

The twin-screw motor tank vessel Conde de Churruca, built for the Philippine Tobacco Company by Sir W. G. Arm strong, Whitworth & Co., on the Tyne, recently underwent ber trial, when * mean speed of 11.8 knots was attained. The

principal dimensions of the vessel, which is constructed on the Isherwood system, are:-Length, b.p., 370ft.; breadth moulded, 48ft. 3in.; depth moulded, 30ft. The oil space is divided into seven com partmcets, and oil-tight bulkhands are fuel is carried in the aft cross bunker, carried through all compartments. Oil- in a double-batton tank under the ma chinery space, and also in the fore deep tank.

The vessel is propelled by Arm strong Sulzer Diesel engines. The main engines are of the inverted four-cylinder, direct-neting,

reversible, single-acting. two-cycle type. Two Armstrong-Sulzer Diesel engines for driving generators of the latest Sulzer two-cycle controlled port scavenging type are fitted. The engines are each direct coupled to a 70-kw. genera. tor, which supplies the necessary current for driving the engine-room auxiliaries and the steering gear.
