INTERNATIONAL TRADE, WORLD CONGRESS IN LONDON, Representative business men from twenty-five countries met in London last month at the first congress of the Inter national Chamber of Commerce, Mat tam of vital importanes were discussed, and much good was expected to arise from a free interchange of views on such subjects as finance, distribution, produc tion, transport and communications, and matters affecting the devastated regions of France and Belgium. Efforts will subsequently be made to have the prin ciples decided upon embodied in legisla tion by the Governments of the various countries concerned.

The meetings were held in the Central Hall, Westminster, and on June 27th the delegates were officially welcomed on behalf of the British Government by the Lord Chancellor, Viscount Birkenhead.

Mr. A. J. Hobson (chairman of the British National Committee) presided, and said he hoped the aims and objects of the International Chamber would do something to restore peace and prom perity to a broken Europe. They aimed at facilitating the commerce of the world by arriving at common documents, com- mon law, and common practice, which should be accepted by all the nations, and which should make it easier to carry on international business
