I assume there were other girls in the nun- nery, and that there were conversations between them, and the knowledge existed among them which all the world knows to exist among young girlk of any "na- tionality who are congregated in numbere. A degree of innocence there very likely is; sometimes there is not. But that there were discussions and some degroo of ordinary knowledge is an inference I shall certainly draw.'

PEASANTS' MASS SUICIDE.

A HORRIBLE TRAGEDY.

A terrible case of mast-enicid in re ported in the Bolshevik Press. The pea sants of the village of Opatoro, in the Tamboff province, to the number of more than 300, assembled all together, men, women, and children, in a spacious wooden bath-house. Doors, windows, and other apertures were hermetically sealed and nailed up. In the cellar firewood saturated with petroleum wis accumulat ed in great quantities. Fire was not to the building. Everybody in the building perished in the conflagration, if not mal- focated previously by the fumes All around the building armed guards had been left, so that the dreadful sacrifica should be carried out undisturbed. When the awful thing was consummated the guards shot each other. A few men lost their nerve at the last moment and suré vived to tell the tale.
