They are preceded by an informal reception by the president and members of the National Vaion of Societies for Equal Citizenship.

estates.

Sir F. Banbury asked why the Bill was confined to Scotland. Why was a Scot tish husband who was unable to maintain himself to be supported by his wife, whilst and English husband was not?

Mr. Marrison said that under the law. of England a woman who had an estate was bound to free the parish from the maintenance of her husband. Under Scor tish lawa maried women had been under no such obligation.
