Apart from the loss of their noble titles, the Hobenberg chidren are now in danger of losing part, or perhaps even the whole, of their property in Czecho-Slovakia, The Czech Socialist agitation against a the children began hamediately after the "foundation of the Crecho-Slovakian Repub- | lic. At that time the children were restd; ↑ ing uc nonopisch; Castle, the sourite residence of their late parenta, until, as s result of the Socialist influence upon the Prague Government, the luster placed the Hohenberg estates of Konopischt and blu netz under compulsory administration;" and a public official was appointed com pulsory administrator.' The orphaus were prevented from exercising their rights of possession relative to their personal and rial estate nog were finally obliged to give up their residence ay Konopischt. Tho Czech Socialists maintain that the children of the late Archduke are members, of the former Imperial and Royal dynasty and that consequently all their personal and real estate in Czecho-Slovakia con bé grized by the State, and they are urging the Government to introduce a Bill to this effect in the Prague National Assembly at (an early date. peteret

A MORGANATIC MARRIAGE. This standpoing of the Socialists in, how ever, open to question, as the marriage of the Archduke Francis Ferdinand With Sophia Countess of Chozek was not between persous "of equal birth." but was a mor gapatic marriage. “According to the family statute of the Hapsburgs, the children isauing from morganatic marringes do not Mrs Cormack possess the rights of other members of tho family. Mr.A. V. Farmer of an agreement following in the will of Mr.J. Farmer the Emperor Francis Joseph.
The. Austrian Socialists wish to annul this agreement by law. although it has been carried out perfectly legally," and, therefore, could be annulled only by a decision of the competent Court of Justice and to deal with the estate as part of the property of the former reigning family. e. to nationalise it.on the strength of the provisions of the Peace Treaty of St. Ger. main. That such an intention actually existe appears from the fact that, last autumn, on the initiative of the Socialist members of the Cabinet, the Austrian Go ernment introduced a Bill in the National Asembly by which as the Bill has been pamed, the Hohenberg orphans are now pre vented from selling or mortgaging their "Austrian catate. Thus the private right of the orphans have been encroached upon by a legislative measures as an action be fore the competent Court of Justice, would doubtins not have had the reslut desired by the Socialists which has even been ad mitted in the preamble to the Bill. This proliminary stop would certainly be follow
by a more drastic and decisive action in Austria if an example should be forth coming from Czecho-Slovakia...
