The fall of six-pence ply ounce in the price of silver yesterday was largely due to the legered demand from China and offerings from the Continent following on the demonetising of silver; also, the fall in prios in the United States below a dollar in ounce rendered inoperative the discretionary power given to the Washing- ton Mint by the Pittman Ack to buy silver at a dollar an ounce in order to replace the silver exported to India in
war-time.
