"I had only hard of "THE ACQUITTAL" so I called upon Raynolds Denniston and asked him aboup the piece so that I might salighten our million of readers on the subject and this is what he told me "While in New York . J. Middon of the Ameri can Play Co. called upon me at the Lambs Club and requested ma particularly to go to Chicago to see. “THE ACQUITTAL" with the object in view of buying the play for the Orient. I did so and aw its first performance. I was so delighted with it that I wired New York and bought it. The fact that it concluded a 16 weeks
judgment was correct is confirmed by the at the Coban Thestre Chicago playing to $14,000 a week. It was due to appear at the Coban and Harrk Theatre New York during the last week in January and reports have not as yet had time to come through but it is a feather in my cap that Shanghai is getting "THE ACQUITTAL" in the same month of its production in New York. I think it a very powerful play-intensely interesting, with a decided panch.”

"Down to this data," says the reporty for the existence of the Imperial Tobacco. Company, with its present policy, has not resulted in raising the price of tobeced. or cigaretter to the consumer; but has tended in the opposite direction.
Nor bave we discovered that the Im perial Tobacco Company has exercised any injurious influence on the trade. Our witnesses expressed the opinion that its activities, generally speaking, have been beneficial to the retailer and the com. munity.

“One effect is that the tobacco manu- facturer has to provide a large sum of money on taking the raw material out of which on the manufactured goods
