The title indiscreet sistar" attached itself to her in the early 00s, when the loss of her personal diary gave rise to the so-called anonymous letters, scandal which caused annoying fact about the Kaiser and other members of her family to leak out. For her friendship toward Baron Kotze when on trial as the alleged writer of these letters the Kaiser banished Princess: Charlotte and her busband, Prince Bar nard of Saxe-Meiningen, from Berlin court circles by giving the latter an army ocommand in Breslau.

Later further disciplining" resulted when Princess Charlotte applauded Kotor Harden's article criticizing Wil- belm's no quarter" speech to German troops leaving for China during the Boxer trouble; her husband was relieved of his command following the 'incident.'..

MADE FUN OF 'EXPRESS. “

In the days when Charlotte's wit won the admiration of the German court fallowers she was never on really good terms with her sister-in-law, the empress To coin epigrams on Augusta's weaknesses and little vaaities gave, her far more pleasure than to revel in her good gruces. However, on certain State occasions the ladies were obliged to meet, but the conse gaences more often than not, were annoy- ing to the empress.

Once when the church building eraza inaugurated by the Kaiser was at ita baight, the ladies were driving together in Freidrich Strasse Their carriago stopped because of a breakdown. An old man, recogniting the empress, uncovered and holding his bat in his outstretched hand, made a low bow, This loyal subject happened to be extremely bald

See here, my good man," said the princess, cover up that vacant lot or the Kaiser will build a church on it, aure as you live!"

On another occasion Princess Charlotte ridiculed, the empress boters a number of courtiera. The princesses and their ladies were exercising in the riding school of thẻ royal stables and Charlotte offered to Tide Florence Dixie fashion if anybody would lend her a pair of breeches. Nonsense cried the empress.

ADVOCATED POLYGAMY,

It was Charlotte's authorship of a sensational book advocating polygamy that once stirred the Kaiser's anger against har. In the book she held that men must have a matrimonial change after a certain age and income. BE wrote:-

"It would be well to grant the right to marry & second wife after the old one has

censed to be attractive, under certain restrictions, because such a law, besides eradicating (more or less) the divorce habit, is desirable for the protection Di the wife that has become obsolete, is in- tended to protect the rights of thus -children and would be an aid to morality. ***As a correction of the evils under which women and children are suffering nowadays, divorce is wholly inadequate. The Catholic cannot get a divorce under any circumstances, and there are hundreds and thousands of good-natured. Protest- sats and Jews who cannot bring them
