A SEVEN DAYS BAZAAR TO BE HELD.
THE CALCUTTA DERBY SWEEP,
Sporting writers in Home papers, eaya 10.00 the Statesman, continue their ill-in- 10.00
formed criticisms on the subject of the 10,00 10.00 Derby sweep, but have so far failed ta 10.00 produce any reliable evidence to show 10.00 more
than a very slight connection 19.00 between the sweep and the large field 10.00 which started for this year's race. It 10.00
seems much more probable that the open- 10.00 character of the race itself was respon- 10.00 sible for the fact that many owners, whin 10.00 would not otherwise have done so, started 145.00 horses on the off-chauce that in a field of third-raters anything might win.
This simple theory, however, does not please the sporting scribes at Home, who are calling loudly on the Jockey Club to take drastic action against the authorities in Indie. What these quidnunes appear to A meeting was held last night at the forget is that the latter are the last body, office of the Confucian Society to discuss in the world to connive at spoiling genuine sport, and that they are quite the advisability of holding a bazaar incapable, without any prompting from aid of the Flood Relief Fund. In spite of the inclemency of the weather, there was a large attendance. The Hon. Mr. Lan Chu Pak was voted to the chair, After some explanatory remarks made by the Chairman concerning the object of the meeting, it was decided to hold a Bashar at the Tung Ting Restaurant at Kennedy Town in aid of the Flood Relief- Fund for 7 days, commencing from the 28th instant. ...
The following regulations were adopted at the meeting-
1.--The Society shall be called the Kwong
tung Flood Relief Bazaar Society of Hongkong. 2.-All those who subscribe money or send articles or render services to the Society shall become members of the Society.
3. Subscribers of $25 and upwards shall become honorary members of the Committee. Those who take part in the management of the affairs of the Society shall become members of the Executive Committee who shall, from among themselves, elect a President. Vice-President, four Treasurers, and three Secretaries.
The organization of the Bazaar and management of all affairs shall be Jeft in the hands of the President and the Executive Committee.
