After about a month of the Banatogen, she easily took food milk, rice and other light articles of diet. She had only about two or three motions daily, and there was no blood. The offensive adour was also gone. After she was able to walk, she felt off my treatment, and, therefore, Banat ogen also. NEW ERA IN THE HISTORY OF THE PORT

AN INFORMAL OPENING CEREMONY Singapore, with its magnificent harbour and its ample and continually growing shipping, has, for many years past, felt the need of further dock accommodation, One fine dry dock has succeeded another and many improvements have been effected in the matter of wharfage. In the year 1806- the graving dock was forinally opened by H.E. Sir Harry Ord, who christened it the Victoria Dock, and in 1879 the Albert Dock was completed, while in 1890 the New Harbour Docks at Keppel Harbour were purchased by the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company and in- cluded two graving docks List August the King's Dock at Keppel Harbour was opened by the Governor, and in this con- nection it is significant to note that in its dimensions the dock has claimed atten- tion as a work of signal interest and importance. It was completed at a cost of over £400,000 and 3 the largest dre dock in the Far East. It is 870 feet In length by 128 feet in breadth, with su entrance width of 100 feet; it can, howe ever be divided by a central caisson into an ingor and outer portion which can then dock ships of E02 feet and 346 feet in length, respectively,

The great Lagoon dock, which is now ready for us and which marks a further era in the commercial history of the port, was commenced in January, 1903, the original contract having bean awarded to Messrs. John Aird & Co. in the previous October. Unfortunately, however, pro gress on the work was somewhat delayed and a disagreement between the contrac tors and the Government resulted in the termination of the contract in March, 1911, followed in October of 1912 by the commencement of litigation in the High Courts, Messrs Aird basing a heavy claim upon allegations respecting mis- representations by which they maintained they were induced to enter into an agree ment with the old Tanjong Pagar Dock Board and their agent. Mr. Justice Par ker, who has since been made a Lord Justice of Appeal, early in the case intimated that he was of opinion there was no question of fraud in the matter, and despite his efforts to secure a settle mout of the case litigation continued until February of last year when the parties came to terms.
