It was hoped that immediately Saigon mill had satisfied outstanding contracte anul were able to spare more grain for now business, we would see more notivity in obartering from Saigon to this, but wa regrot to report that owing to the local rice- market having collapsed, chartering opera- tions in that direcion laro been suspended for the time boing. During the earlier part of last week the rate Baigon to this declined from 20 cents to 19 cents, but at time of writing nothing better than 17 cents con be quoted forloading not earlier than the 17th of this month. There is also very little life indeed in alter trades, and the market is likely to remain depressed for some time, uniess Saigon again comes to the front with a good demand for tonnage:
