HONGKONG SHARE MARKET.

Mesore: Vernon & Smyth in their weekly share report dated 2nd January staw-

Business since our last report has been rather limited owing to the holidays, but prices have remained firm. Langkats have again been dealt in at prices ranging between Tls. 34 and Tls. 36, but now-close easier with sellers at Tls, 34. The 'Oil" market has remained very quiet, and, according to our latest London advices, prices aro slightly down. The tons of the *Rubber market is reported from Home as firmer, and the “Tin market re- mains very quiet, Fine Hard Para is advised at 3/01 per lb., and Plantation sheet at 2/2 per lb. The open market rate of discount is lower, and now stands at 4 per cent. The Bank of England rate being unchanged at 9 per cent. Bar Silver is quoted at 267-18 for ready and 207-16 for forward, Sterling T.T closes at 1/11), Shanghai T.T. at 73/ and Singapore T.T. at 821. Consola are unchanged ab 71%.

BANKS-Hongkong and Shanghais bave again been doalt in at 9700, and at which price more shares are wanted: middle quotation is £79 10s, and there pro sellers at £80.

MARINE INSURANCES.-Unions are casier and have now sellers at $805. Cantons remain in request at 33293, but no phares are on offer at the price. North Chinas are unchanged with a nominal quotation of Tls. 1331, and Yangtzes show no change from last week, viz., $1923 nominal.

FIRE INSURANCES.-China Fires aro on offer at $181. and Hongkong-Fires are wanted at $380.

SHIPPING, Hongkong, Canton and Macaos are alightly harder at $291, but shares in any appreciable quantity are difficult to obtain. Indo-Chinas close with a nominal quotation of $79, and London advises a middle quotation of 166/3. China and Maniles are now on offer at 210,10 and Star Ferries remain in demand as 345.- Douglases are still a quiet market with sellers at. $30,

Oils-Shells are advised from Londen with a slightly easier quotation of 96/10) middle and "Moxican Eagles are changed at 38/t1⁄2 middle. Dral Caspians bave delined to a middle quotation' of: 45/71.

REFINERIES-China Sugars still remain & vory quiet market and are now on offer at $04. Luzons for the time being are neglected with sellers s! in the market at $31, but no business has to be reported. MINING Raubs have been inquired for at $3, but no shares are obtainable at the rate. Henwoods are unchanged with a nominal quotation of 2/6. Kailang during the week have been inquired for, and have improved in London to a middle. quotation of 38/9. Tronohs are eagior with a middlo quotation of 36/3.

West Points are still wanted at $07, but no sellers are apparent, Humphreys Estates are unchanged from last week, viz., 80 nominal. Hongkong Hotels (old) close with a nominal quota- tion of 8122), and now issue Bro un- changed, with buyers at 802.
