HONGKONG GYMKHANA CLUB.

SOME INTERESTING RACING.

At one tiiue, it seemed highly probable that the cold weather would make the gymkhana at Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon & very colourless gathering, for watching pony rucing in a biting wind is a most niserable form of entertain- ment. However, the cold morning

developed into a delightful afternoon, GENTLEMEN'S

and as a consequence the racing ras watched with interest by a fair number of spectators. The turf was in excellent condition, and the racing, with the exception of the opening event when only two ponies lined up to the flag, was always good. The niost exciting event was the burdle race, when the tive ponies kept well together throughout the dis tanco, to finish in a banch, a neck only dividing the first three. The fields were not large, but they were always keen and that was fair compensation. An interesting feature of the programme was the tent-pegging, in which some extremely skillful work was done by the winners. Daring the afternoon the band of the 2nd Batt. D.C.L1. played some popular selections. which greatly enhanced the afternoon's enjoyment. The arrange- ments made were of the best, the events being run off very well to time,
