A HIVER GOWN.
A dark-haired girl sat in a skift with roses arranged in tiers at her fest. She wore a Rose du Barri gown opening slightly over Ince at the knee, and her hat was black tulle trimmed with straw- berries, the fruit, the flower, and the three-pointed leaf. She made a delight ful picture with a pink ribbon sunsliade draped with chend flowers, and it was rendered still more effective by the canopy of cream and pink canvas, which was skil- fully arranged across the skift. SOME SMART GOWNS.
One of the latest ideas applied to dress is that of adding
a lace basque to the short coat. This is applied to linen suits, whether white, or grey, or in the several tones of rose er green that look so charm. ing. These costs with lace basques have flat collars to match laid on the upper part of the revers, which open over 0. collarless ince vost. The very wide revers have reappeared, and are to be seen on some gowns in silk and moire. These latter have sprung into fashion in 3 startlingly sidden way Tailors are turning them out with very thin linings in coat and skirt, and ther promise to become one of the indispensable items in the fashionable wardrobe. In toad greo one of these suits is relieved with pale blue silk revers, lightly covered with finest lace, Any of these gowns are car- ried out in Shantung with lace blouse forming a basque over the skirt. The coatee is of the Shantung, the revers and enfis embroidered in soft and delicate' colours.
BARGAINS AND CHEAP SALES,
A word of advice to those attending the summer sales. Do not ho afraid to buy short lengths of such pretty materials as printed voile, in rather strong colours. or of lace fabrics sold by the piece for SCB- side and autumn wear. Short coals of thess dainty-flowered voiles will be made by the score and worn by the best dressed nimbers of the community, with skirts of silk, satin, voile, or eréje. This was cut away below the waist in front like a man's merning coat, but hung rather low in a point at the back.
