HIGH HEELS BACK AGAIN.

Sunday's races at Longchamp proved that the inartistic, injurious and uncom fortable high heel is back again among

us.

It is particularly absurd that it should be wom with the tight skirt- called in Paris" a la nymphe, short, light, and some of them split up in order to allow of walking. Gowns such as these require an upright, easy, and graceful movement, for which heels of a moderate height are indispensable. Anything above three-quarters of an inch makes the wrarers look awkward, and almost as if they were imitating Chinese ladies with their feet five or six inches in length.

- THE RAGE FOR TULLE.

The rage for tulle in hats or toques grows apace, and in many cases it is mani pulated with such delt lightness as to Jeave the headgear semi-transparent. Apparently all one needs in order to con- struct a smart bat is a tulle shape well wired and some yards of pleated tulle edging. This is thrown rather tightly over the brim, then raised in erect lines across the crown accompanied by the inevitable feather or feathers. The brim must then be lined with white tulle, and to give solidity to the ergction on the top a smart clasp, jewelled or jetted, com- pictes the structure.

AND THE FEATHER.

The fashionable position for the plume at the moment is at the back of the hat er toque, where the plume juts outward, sometimes in a straight line like the tail of a belligerent fox terrier, sometimes equally similar to the tail of a squirrel in a line twarde and alightly forward. This is an eccentricity which has its dis- agreeable side for fellow travelterwin any vehicle. The hat, apparently innocuous, soon makes its presence felt when tha wearer turns away, her rampant feather. sweeping the face of her neighbour. Coloured tulles are not very much used for these smart hats, only black, which, is sold by the furlong for this purpose.

READY FOR ASCOT.

Here is a dainty toilette prepared fr Ascot. It is in dove-grey satin with draped skirt over which falls a tunic of Sax blue marquisette embroidered in green, purple, blue, and grey. This tunic is carried us in diminishing lines to the shoulders, the bodies part being com posed of tulle in the same delicate ione of grey as the dress. With this gors a black tulla hat lined under the brim with the lovely shade of blue in the tunic. The fashionable beige is the colour of another Asent dress it charmeuse. The skirt, is gracefully draped, and is trimmed with lines of soft silky cream lacs with little buttons and taba of cinnamon colour. The col to bo worn with it is in cinnamon soft silk lined with floral niuon printed with scattered flowers in very pale but effective tones of colour. The hat is beiga straw with bla tulle and cinnamo feathers for trimming. The brim is lined with lace similar to that on the gown, laid on fut over white chiffon.

THE SMART COAT OF THE REASON.

Having ladies are wearing conts in silk poplin brostié, much cut away at the neck but furnished with a turned down collar, The right front crosses over to the left hip, where it buttons down after being caught in cumerous folds. The sleever are long end wide. These coats are made in different colours, tan, ruse du Barri, Saxe, ivory freen and black, The broché is in all-over designs, and the whole effect is very rich and handsome. Shantung retains its nopularity for out- door coats and is usually lined with floral ninon in various colours. These coate are often trimmed with string Iros, and a very good contrast is provided by having this lace in doapest Paris colour
