Another wonderful symphony of colour is a gown of Indian crimson silk veiled with terra-cotta chiffon, the Indian crim- son breaking out here and there in the form of embroideries or pipings.

It has a short skirt, edged with narabout, and is thus suitable for outdoor wear in the afternoon. For this purpose a long coat accompanies it of sible brown velvet, faced all round with

EVENING GLORIES.

Where afternoon gowns are so bright, or rather, pay so much attention to soft and beautiful combinations of colouring it is not likely that evening dresses will lag behind, and one sees euch wonderful mixtures as violet voiled with fame- colour, and worn with violet shoes and stockings, and cardinal red veiled with dull cornflower-blue, the result being, in some mysterious manner, really exquisite, and not at all the shouting horror that it sounds.
