HOW TO MAINTAIN HEALTH IN HOT CLIMATES.
The question of health in hot countrica practically resolves itself in the over-i coming of the difficulties due to extremes

used at all.
The diot should be plain and simple, and an excess of animal food should ho rigorously avoided, with the view of ob- viating dyspepsia, congestion of the liver, interference
with assimilation and plethora. On the other hand, it does not do to imitate ton closely the diet of the natives, for the European stomach can no more obtain from the native diet all that is necessary for nutrition than it could, in other circumstances, from the blubber which the Eskimó finds sufficient.
Every authority states that people in tropical countries ent more than they can assimilate or is needed for their nutrition.
The result is they get deranged digestion. disordered liver, howel complaints, and their power of assimilation is greatly re- duced.
HOW TO AVOID LISTLESSNERA,
The enervating nature of the climate makes most people imagine they need an alcoholic stimulant. They do not; but there is absolutely no need for people to become eranks on the subject of teetotal ism, although doctors everywhere are preaching the value of complete absten- tion from alcohol.
For people who desire to give themselves the best chance and who does not Beience has pointed the way by which animal food on the one hand can be large ly omitted and alcohol on the other, with- out causing that feeling of weakness, that "all gone Bousation which are so
cop-
stantly complained of, especially before the system has got accustomed to doing without these articles on which the in dividual used to rely.
The means by which this can be done is by the use of Sanatogen, that wonderful preparation which has such revitalising and re-creative powers that it is univer- sally admitted to be the greatest tonic food in existence. It owes its unique qualities to the fact that it is a chemical | combination of the body-building portion of pure cow's milk with that salt of phosphorns which
found in the brain and nervous system. The consequence is that almost immediately after it has been takon it is assimilated, and exercises its beneficent effects on the brain and nerves generally. As a result, the majority of those who take it experience the same sort of feeling of well-being, of being strong and able to do anything, which they habitually oxperienced after the use of their favourite form of alcohol.
ENTHUSIASTIC MEDICAL TESTIMONY. More than this, however, Sanatogen has the power of satisfying hunger to a mark ed degree, and, by supplying the body with a highly nitrogenous food, it enables those who take it to work harder and go longer hours without the desire for food. The immediate result of this is that the stomach and the digestive organs general- ly are rested. They are, therefore, able to regain the tone which they had lost, and thus recover their power of dealing efficiently with the ordinary articles of diet,
The band that warns of danger, that invariably rises in time to rob the re the dreadful toll it gathered when the typhoon gave its own warning to the hapless ship-too late-is guided by a sensitive and delicate instrument mort intelligent than the keen brain that con ceived it--the magnetic register of Sicen- wei Observatory. And back of the magnetic register and the perfect system of weather signals in us here to-day, is the romantic story of Siccawei and the Jesuit Fathers, why muy be found with their meteorological observatories, where
ever a flag flies.
The history of Siccawei Observatory has never been written. Unless somewhere in its archives lie records that have not come to light for decades, the facts of ita early existence here died with the founders. To-day it stands as one of the six or seven "great observatories of the world from a and magnetic equipment. It employs a standpoint of meteorological system of weather signals in use only on the Asiatic coast-and which the world The magnetic must eventually learn.
servatory, established in 1876 by Father Marc Dechevron, was the first in history, and was followed by the introduction of its success interested the French scientist, similar registering instrument in the great observatory of Paris.
ENGQUALLED FOR RESULTS.
The Siccawei Observatory exists under a system which is perhaps without an equal for results it is conducted by a half dos Jesuit priests who receive an
compense for their work-in has inter- national agreements which allow the free. transmission of hundreds of telegrams daily, no oficialdom hinders or inter fores with the Fathers: it was establisheri purely for the help of humanity and is bound by no outside ties-it is a thing apart from the world except for its co operation with the Maritime Customs. The presence of Siccawei Observatory saves the Government of China bundreds of thousands yearly; its value to the world
inestimable, and the number of lives and millions in property which have been sayed by the few Jesuit Priests who ask for nothing more than to be allowed to do their own work in their own way will never be known.
Centuries ago the Jesuits were expciled from China, but they returned in 1842 and established missions in Nanking and Peking, taking up their meteorological observations in south-west Chibli, at] Chan-Chiachua, where the work went ahead slowly for some years without recognition. The Jesuits established at Biccawei a small mission and made it their headquarters, receiving reports from other stations of weather conditions. The first real results were obtained in 1873, when the Siccawei observatory began the publication of meteorological reports. Even then the work of the Fathers passed unnoticed, the typhoons wrought their havoc yearly on the China Coast, and little attention was paid to the Jesuit
So widely appreciated are these quali ties of the preparation, which a writer in The Medical Press and Circular states has strengthened the physician's hand a hundred fold," that thousands of fami- lies living in various parts of the tropics Fathers who persisted in issuing reports are known to make a point of using and warnings from Siccawei. It was not Sanatogen every det is seen in the unrecognized as a factor in Chinese ship

A distinguished German physician practising in India writes:
If any remedy should find the widest apprecia- tion in tropical countries it is Sunatogen. Not only in my opinion, but in the opinion of many well-known medical men, there is no preparation which is as power In to restore vitality, no better tonic is know, and none more suitable to valescents from tropical diseases.
