An incipient spidemic of cholera was raging on the N.D.L. steamer Locksun when she arriv ed in the quarantine grounds at Singapore last week from Swatow, with 693 Chinese deck passengers on board. Immediately on arrival Captain Tanbert reported that are deaths had occurred from cholers on the voyage and there Thurs wers a number of infected cases still on board, He was instructed to land all the passengers and crow Fri. on St. John's Island for surveillance and to allow the ship to be thoroughly disinfected. Shortly Sat after dropping aucher off St. John's another patient died. The medical authorities on the Sun. island received the suspected passengers and crew and had them isolated. A number of sick. Mon. people were among them, and two of these have died. It was late in the evening before the work Tues, of transshipping was completed, which neces sitated the leaving of three infected persons on Wed. board overnight. On the following morning two of these were dead, making a total of deaths to the time of writing of,ton.
