FORECAST.
DISTRICT Hongkong & Neighbourhood,
In my speech at the meeting of the United Serdang Company in Fobrancy of this year, I ventured to give some figures, fakon from the American Customs, showing the consumption of rubber there for the six years from 1904-5 1909-10, and from those figures I showed that

Pressure as increased" moderately and is regard the future consumption of rubber as increasing highest over Janar. something like 10 por coat, por annua. I have been subjected to a good deal of criticism is regard to that, very largely from German ex- peris, who think that that rate was ozconsive. At the time I had these figures for the United meeting I had not the Gorman guros they were not available-but since that time E havo been able to got them. I find tast 1909 the amount of rubber which was retained in Germany for its own consumption, allowing for ra-expirts, was 10,424 tons, and in value £4,792,000 in 1909 16 rogo to 11,279 tons, and in value to £5,355,000; al in 1910 it rose again to 13,529 tons, and in value to £8,909.000.- Those figures show an igörenso in weight of 30 | Formosa Chunnal per cout, and an increase in value of nearly 90 per cent. I think, therefore, that the best ro faronco I can giro to my German friouds is to their own guros, because they show that, in spite of the very large rise in price, the Germans,, during 1908, 1909, and 1910. showed an annual increase in consumption of 10
per cent, I think that,

That satisfies only, the present requirements, in the main, for pleasure motora. Therespon Geniem! Botha Mon. 23 m 11 56 6 carrying remarked: "Australia and South Africa will Thes
line."

would have an opportunity now of consider- aite propared to consider it with you," added General Botha. It may be noted that the only criticism of the Panama sat route came from Sir Wilfrid Laurist, who, giving it, as he said, for what it was worth.. stated that he had heard that the discomforts of the heat would make the Canadian-route far more available.
