A further rise in ten companies shares odeur- red yesterday on the Stock Exchange and is dealt with in our City Intelligencs.
The sacretary of the China Tea Association witos that "it is a matter of congratulatio that there is plenty of good wholesome ten avail- able from China which will eave the situation, and present the consumer hore being at the mercy of the wholesale dealer, who now finds himself confronted with the situation which has the requirements of the hour."

will seriously interfere with the business of those long been foreseen by traders who look beyond MARSEILLES AND LONDON.
who hitherto have been able to supply the 'publio with tea that hea satisfied them at low prices, and will probably have, as its eventual result, the effect of depriving consumers of the very oboap ten they have been so long able to purchase and of forcing them to pay more.
During the week the competition botsreen the buyers has been oven keener than before, and while still further raising the value of the com monest teas ranging between 78. and 8d. per lb., it has also extended to the large proportion of good medium grades quoted between 8d. and 104. por 1b, which together supply the greater part of the entire trade of the country, the percentage of higher-priced tea imported and used being relatively small,
...
STATISTICAL POSITION, The grounds for the movement are the cootinuance of heavy deliveries from the warehouses both for home consumption and export and the confirmation by the Istest information available from the various sources of supply of the estimate that our importations will fall short of last season, and that for the 12 months ending May 31, 1911 the period which covers the trade's year as distinot from the calendar year-the total.! receipts will fall much below the quantity doliverod, reducing the stocks to a level mach under what is uanál,
>
The following estimate has been carefully framed of what the Board of Trade statistics, to bo published in January, may be expected to show, subject to the important proviso that the carly or lato arrival af a single cargo may make' a difference of 3,000,000lb, or 4,000,000lb. either way in the year's import and the stock,

CAUSES OF TRE DEFICIENCY,
The origin of the deficiency is partly a falling off in Coylon's productiveness, but mainly the immense increase in the quantily diverted from this market by the heavy purchases made by foreign and colonial buyers in Calcutta.. Down to November 22 these buyers bud taken 11,200, 0001b, more than in 1909, while from Colombe they have takon about 3,000,000lb, more, in addi- tion to several millions out of cargoes afloat for this port, which are withdrawn ander the heading of transshipment.
The total receipts from China, Jars, and other countries will be rather larger than before, but not sufficient to relieve the situation, and they are included in the above estimate of the year's importation.
The anxiety of the buyers and retailers la with respect to the future, as thore is gaite. songh tau in the country for present require. ments, but there is no prospect of next your's defloienoy being made good until lufe in the autumn; only then could it be made good by a very abundant Indian crop or by a great in crease in the quantity of common Congbu ship. pod from China.
The latest London quotations for the sorts most affected by the movement are as follows:- Low grades of 1910. 1909. 1908.
