As already intimated, fluctuations have oc curred in the price of rubler of late, although the tendoney las generally been upwards; and the same may be said of the market for rubber shares. No doubt considerable profit-taking has been indulged in by those desirons of turn- ing their paper profits into cash, and, of course, the near approach of the settlement has induswi selling on the part of those who were either Enable or did not wish to pay for the shares they had bought on Friday next. Both these factors have probably contributed to the slightly caster prices which have occasionally been quoted of late, but they have in no way ciminished the nelivity of the market, which appears to be just as strong as ever. In fact, business secmus to be expanding, and instead of the flood of new companies having an adverse influence on the market, it appears to have a stimulating effect All the money naked for by new companies appears to be readily sub- scribed, and the shares are quickly ran up to aanbstantial premium. There are no indica tions as yet of the oft-predicted end of the boom being in sight.

Among the great majority of the older estab. cocamentable feature is that returns are pub. lished at starod periods showing what is being done on the properties. Those enable the share holders to make comparison with the figures of previous years, and so to mark the progress, if any, that has been made. The activities of the London Venture Cor- poration extend to various parts of the world and embrace important industries and interests which are understood to be developing satisfac torily, and promise to yield substantial profits. As a result of the serions and practical interest which the Corporation is taking in the rabber industry, its shares have come in for a great amyant of attention, and they have had an appreciable advance to 93. 3d. The Corpora tion was reponsible for the issue and success- fal flotation of the Jequié, West Jequié, and Madagascar Rabhor Companies, and the shares of all these undertakings now stand at substan tial premiums, the last-mentioned being no less than 54 per 54, share. We are informed that the Corporation holds further valuable rubber inter- estr, and that under its auspicas other impor tant fotations will shortly be made. The Jequié | and West Jequić, whose shares stand at 138, ând 55., respectively, own extensive properties in the Conquista district of Bahia, South America, and the fiolation of those two subsidiaries and the Madagascar company is believed to have brought handsome profits to the London Venture Corporation.
The Vallambrosa Rubber Company's shares are also very popular, and it is not surprising that they have risen to 365, in view of the fact that the output of dry rubber for the nine months ended December 31, reached 280,926, as against 272,7411b. for the whole of the financial year which glosed on March 31, 1909, and that the dividend so far declared for the current year is 661 per cant, in comparison which 80 per cent. for 1908-9. Other active shares include Straits (Bortam), Landron, Kepong, Sungei Way, Sumatra Para, Tremelbye, and Selangor. Greater animation is expected in the market after the conclusion of the settlement on Friday. Still it may be as well for those whose means are narrow not to rush off too eagerly to subscribe to all the companies that are being brought ont in the hope of securing substantial premiums, on the nod," as it were. The shares of the majority of new issues are frequently subscribed several times over in an incredibly short spacs of time, and are unobtainable except at high reminms, and while it is pleasant to pocket s speedy profit, ne is often done, the reverse is the case when the premium on the shares has ran off, and it is not possible to realise even at par.
i
POINTS FOR INVESTORS.
There is as yet no sign of the boom in rubber shares aubsiding. It has been in progress for several months both in the Stock Exchange and in Mincing Lane, and although prices have appreciated enormously i valus there does not the remotest prospect of the excite appear to be ment and activity in the rubber share market coming to an abrupt and as sometimes happens with markets built up on a less solid basis-- ignominious end. For, measured by the demand that exists for it, rubber is a scarce commodity, and although supplies are gradually increasing many years must elapse before production can possibly be on a sufficiently large scale to meet
