REPORT FOs 1904

A HISTORIC SCOTS HOUSE.

The floaucial report and statements for 1901 which were laid before the Legislative Council on August 18th, bear the signature of Mr. J. O. Anthonisz ny acting, transacer. The notwal revenus for the year was $10,746,518, against an outlay sut at $10,848,089 The assols and liabilities give a balance to the credit of, the Colony of $1,654,866 on the 1st January, 1905. The dependencies came to $16,500, being un advance to the Municipality of Malacca.

The cash balance on the 1st January, 1905, excluding the earrener note reserve, has $810,187. This reserve was $11,023,203 The Fuvestments of the Colony at the end of the year wäre £81.627. The difference between the actual price paid and value on 31st December, 1901, amounts to $13,560, which is a difference to the goal. This is entirely due to value in dollars of New South Wales inscribed stock of 1985, which was bought when exchange was high. All other stocks shov a depreciation in respect of their dollar

values,

The actual revenne shows a, deliciency of $1,182,224 when compared with the ostimates, and an iqurease of $2,783,021 over the actual rotenno for 1903. The total transactions for the year, which had been estimated to art in a surples of $410,123, showed an actual deficit of $102,471. This result is due to the consider able reduction in the opium-farm rents amounting to $1,019,000, and to the fact that ne faut sales were effected. The satireate of ravenne from this source was $20,000. On the other hand, a sum of $609,603 is shown as saring but this is mainly due to the non- completion and postponenient of certain public

works.

The actual expenditure was $19,848,989. saving of 8609,630 on the estimates, and un increase of 22,663,086 as compared with the The amount to a expenditure of 1903, covered by the Final Sapply Bill comes to $89,550 as compared with 9778,:20 in 1903.
