Mosera. Vernon & Smyth say in their weekly share report dated Hongkong, 2nd June, 1306. -We have no improvement to report in the market; in foot, with a continuation of the dullues reported in sar last, and in consequenes of the continued tightness of money among the Chines, added to lump in one of our chief preplative stocks, we have to record a decidedly wreak market. The business daring the week has been unimportant. owing chiefly to the scarcity of bayers for either investment or speculation. With brighter prospects of peace, owing to the disappearance of the Baltic Fleet Bogey, how- aver, and a reported “helter fooling" in Chinese Mercantile circles, we may rasombly hope for an improvement in the market, uven if it proves to be a slow one.

BANKS Hongkong and Shanghais ruled weak in the early part of the week in sympathy with a further drop in the Loudon, rate to £78.30s, and shares were maleable at $790, later, however, with the sudden racorory of the Lorden market to £80, our market improved and als

Chinns, with persistent rumours, chiedy from Shanghai, of a smaller dividend than was generally anticipated. hare rated very dull and after a fow sales in the early part of the week at $128, it was impossible to plsen Phorasor even to give a reliable bayingquotation. The weakness of our market was quickly reflected to Shanghai and even accentuated there, the model settlement freely offering us shares both for cash and timoat greatly reduced rater and sicceeding in placing a limited num bor at Tla 83 for July. The weakness has been explained to-day by a telegram from London, announcing that the directors recommend a dividend of only 12%. c. 6 per cent on the capital. The announcement has been received with great disappointment by China share- holders and has further depressed a weak market, It is difficult to give a closing quotations in the absmes of buyera, and $117 must be considered quite nominal, The latest quotation from London received as the 31st ultime was £12. Shells have been placed at 22s. 6d. We have nothing else to report under this heading.

REFINERIES-China Sugars have changed bands at $921 for the settlement, and Luzons are still in demand at $30 wthout bringing any shares on the market.
