What is known as the "universal transferable steering propulsor," a French invention, is a light explosion motor that can be attached in place of a rudder to any existing boat, without bering a hole in the stern-post, and can be removed when desired. It embles anybody to convert a row-bost into a gasoline launch for the temporary nectis of his day's outing. No ruddar is necessary, and as, the propeller can be turned completely around, a reverse action is given. The actinic rays of the sun nol only have a stimulanting and beneficial action, but they may produce unpleasant affects. Prof. Fermi has been experimenting by exposing many persons to direct sunlight for varying periods, and has produced many cases-often persisting for many days-of headache, dryness of the nose, snuffing, cold in the head, pharyngitis, weariness, light conjunctivitis, dryness of the lips, fever, psendo influenza, constipation, insonnin, noge- bleeding, and various pains. It is concluded that exposure to strong sunlight is a factor in influenza, hay fever, etc.

A sphygmograph, or pulse-recorder, is attached to a small wind instrument, and when the combination is in place on the patient, the variation of the heart- bests makes the notes faster or slower, higher or lower, according to the nature of the case.
