THE FINGER-PRINTS.

When a man goes to gaol he expects sbot drill and oakum-picking, and it would be a stume to disappoint him. In prison there is no ench thing as favourilism; everything is con ducted with clock-like regularity. For instance. shot-drill and stone-currying has to be done in alternate spolls of half-an-hour each for 8 hours per diem. The shot, weighing 24 s., is carried from one stand to another, put down, picked up. and so on, seemingly, for over-menotonou, hard work that has often caused men to love au intense desire to take their own life.
