No modification of the peace terms being sought for, General Botha would have us believe that the sole object of the thres Generals in visiting Enghud was to obtain immediate help for the distressed burghers. They were oppressed by the misery of their people. The farms and agriculture, which made the two South African countries all that they were sud had, no longer exist. MARCONI SYSTEM EXTENDING.

The first experiment was made in October on a siecial train' bearing delegates to the forty- enth annual convention of the American Association of General Passeurer and Ticket Agents held in Portland St. Dominique was selected as the transmitting station and the train was kept in complete touch with the station for ten miles. The officials of the Grand Trunk who were on the frain expressed the opinion that the experiment want for faward demonstrating the practicability of establish- ing constant communication between moving trains and the telegraph stations ahead of them aaralan in the rear.

The possibilities of such communication with respect to the safety of train aperation are gl most boundless. It would practically munka wrecks from collisions impossible and pornit of informing engineers on moving trains of any damage to the track ahead of them. The con- seat saving in the cost of damages would in grast, to say nothine of the saving of life and the prevention of injury.

George T. Ball, general. pasronger agent of the company, has issued a report on the texts in which he says: "Experiments have been made

and the practicability of the exchange of siguals. or one of our trains with wireless telgraphy

by this wonderful menus from antation ten-train-

ruening at the rate of sixty miles an hour was

successfully demonstrated for the first time.

In spite of the diffenfties encountered, the

to the train was eminently satisfactory, and distance to which the signak could be zont

with improved apparatus greatordistances could withant doubt be obtained. The success of this form of wireless telegraphy, of which this was but a pioneer experiment, opens up yet

another method of providing for the safety of the travelling public"

The experiment was made in the presence of several scientifle men. One of there was H. T. Birses of the McGill University, who, with- others, expressed himself as convinced that; communication between moving trains and stations could be maintained successfully,

Train service is not the only important Can- adian innovation with wireless telegraph. C. C. Greenshield, solicitor of the Marconi Wire- leas Telegraph Company, ennounces that the company is about to establish a system of wireless telegraphy sereas the Dominion of Canada, connecting Victoris with Cape Breton. He said that not only would the Company operate a system of wireless telegraph over the to Victoria. ocean, but also a land line from Cape Breton

Although General Botha is prolific in his professions of the desire to work and is hand with-tus new Government, the spirt naderlying his words and his actions makes him and those for whom be speaks impossible colleagues. In truth, they have not appreciated the wisdom the homely proverb, that as they made their befle so muat they lie on them. They
