Substitute teachers in Govt schools

Following is a question by the Hon Tik Chi-yuen and a written reply by the Secretary for Education and Manpower, Mr Michael Leung, in the Legislative Council today (Wednesday):

Question:

Regarding the employment of substitute teachers in government schools in Hong Kong, will the Government inform this Council:

(a)

(b)

of the proportions of substitute teachers to teaching staff, as well as the respective maximum and average numbers of substitute teachers employed in primary and secondary government schools throughout the territory in each of the past three years; and

whether the current regulations governing the recruitment of teachers will be amended, so that schools may employ fewer substitute teachers?
