PRESS ARRANGEMENTS FOR ARRIVAL OF SIR DAVID WILSON
Hong Kong's new Governor, Sir David Wilson, will arrive by air
He will be accompanied by Lady
in Hong Kong in the afternoon of April 9. Wilson and their son, Mr Andrew Wilson.
They will arrive at Kai Tak Airport at about 2.40 pm and will
be met by the Acting Governor and Lady Akers-Jones. They will be escorted to the VIP Room, where Sir David will change into uniform, and
later depart by car.
The party will board the Lady Maurine at the Tsim Sha Tsui East promenade for a harbour crossing to Queen's Pier. During the crossing, there will be an escort of Royal Navy, Fire Services and Marine Police vessels and a flypast of Royal HK Auxiliary Air Force, Army and Royal Air Force aircraft and helicopters. A seventeen gun salute will be fired
from HMS Tamar.
On disembarking at Edinburgh Place, the Acting Governor will present the Chief Justice, the Chief Secretary, the Commander British Forces, the Bishop of Hong Kong, and their spouses, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Hong Kong, and the Senior Members of the Executive and Legislative Councils.
Sir David will then inspect a Guard of Honour formed by the 1st Battalion 2nd King Edward VII's Own Gurkha Rifles, following which members of the Executive and Legislative Councils and their spouses will be introduced outside the entrance to the City Hall.
Sir David will enter the Concert Hall and, in the presence of over 1,000 guests, will be sworn in as Hong Kong's 27th Governor. Welcome speeches will be made by Sir David Akers-Jones and Sir S.Y. Sir David will make Chung, Senior Member of the Executive Council.
