COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE STANDARD OF SERVICE OF THE KOWLOON MOTOR BUS COMPANY (KME) CAME TO 94. THIS WAS NEARLY THE SAME AS THE TOTAL OF 91 COMPLAINTS IN THE LAST QUARTER. BUT COMPARED ITH THE 52 COMPLAINTS IN THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR, IT REPRESENTS AN INCREASE OF 42 CASES,
THE RISE IN COMPLAINTS INVOLVING KMB SINCE THE LAST QUARTER OF 1984 WAS DUE TO MORE CASES ABOUT BUS CAPTAINS (FROM 14 TO 39), BUSES NOT KEEPING TO SCHEDULE (FROM 24 TO 28) AND CONDITIONS OF BUSES (FROM 5 TO 11).
+ELEVEN OF THE 94 COMPLAINTS CONCERNING KMB WERE STILL BEING LOOKED INTO BY THE COMPANY. THE OTHER 83 CASES HAD BEEN INVESTIGATED AND 53 WERE FOUND SUBSTANTIATED, HE SAID.
COMPLAINTS CONCERNING CHINA MOTOR BUS COMPANY (CMB) TOTALLED 141 AN INCREASE OF 15 OVER THE LAST QUARTER AND 35 MORE THAN THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
THERE WERE INCREASED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CONDITIONS OF CMB EUSES THE NUMBER WENT UP FROM 12 IN THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR AND 20 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 60. ON THE OTHER HAND,
COMPLAINTS ABOUT CMB BUSES NOT KEEPING TO SCHEDULED FREQUENCY SHOWED A DROP. TWENTY-NINE CASES WERE RECORDED AGAINST
IN THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR AND 45 IN THE LAST WARTER.
ON THE 60 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CONDITIONS OF CMB BUSES. THE AREAS OF CONCERN WERE DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETER (ONE BUS), MINOR REPAIR TO SEATS AND WINDOWS (EIGHT BUSES) AND BRAKE SQUEALS (51 BUSES). BUT ONLY 22 COMPLAINTS WERE FOUND SUBSTANTIATED.
'R PANG SAID THAT THE 60 BUSES UNDER COMPLAINT WERE CHECKED PROMPTLY BY CMB. THE COMPLAINT ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE SPEEDOMETER
AS FOUND SUBSTANTIATED. SO WERE SIX OF THE EIGHT COMPL
INTS ABOUT MINOR REPAIR AND 15 OF THE 51 COMPLAINTS ABOUT BRAKE SQUEALS.
+ALL FAULTS HAD BEEN RECTIFIED AND CMB ADVISED THAT NONE OF THE SUBSTANTIATED CASES ABOUT BRAKE SQUEALS HAD ANY SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. IT SHOULD ALSO BE MENTIONED THAT OF THE 141 COMPLAINTS RECEIVED IN THE QUARTER CONCERNING CMB, LESS THAN 50 PER CENT WERE FOUND SUBSTANTIATED, HE SAID.
COMPLAINTS ABOUT GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES CONTINUED TO INCREASE. THE NUMBER WENT UP FROM 88 IN THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR AND 94 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 113.
THE MAIN AREAS OF COMPLAINTS WERE CONDUCT AND PERFORMANCE
OF DRIVERS (33 CASES) IRREGULAR SERVICE (22 CASES) AND NON-ADHERENCE TO ROUTE ING (17 CASES).
