MORE COMPLAINTS AGAINST PUBLIC TRANSPORT RECEIVED

MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT BUS SERVICES, GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES AND ROAD CONGESTION WERE RECEIVED IN THE LAST QUARTER OF 1985, ACCORDING TO THE QUARTERLY REPORT NO. 1 OF 1985-86 RELEASED BY THE TRANSPORT COMPLAINTS UNIT (TCU) TODAY (SATURDAY).

THE REPORT, WHICH COVERS THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER TO DECEMBER 1985, RECORDED A TOTAL OF 1 482 COMPLAINTS - 254 CASES OR 21 PER CENT MORE THAN THE 1 228 COMPLAINTS RECEIVED IN THE SAME PERIOD OF 1984.

THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF THE TCU, MR STEPHEN PANG, SAID THOUGH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS RECEIVED IN THE QUARTER WAS NEARLY THE SAME AS THE PREVIOUS QUARTER'S TOTAL OF 1 486, COMPLAINTS ABOUT BUS SERVICES, GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES AND ROAD CONGESTION SHOWED AN INCREASE. THERE WERE, HOWEVER, FEWER COMPLAINTS ABOUT PARKING FACILITIES AND ILLEGAL PARKING.

COMPLAINTS ABOUT PUBLIC TRANSPORT SERVICES WERE STILL PREDOMINANT, ACCOUNTING FOR 678 CASES OR MORE THAN TWO-FIFTHS OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS RECEIVED IN THE QUARTER - NEARLY 70 PER CENT OF THESE CASES WERE CONCERNED WITH BUS SERVICES WHILE ONE-HALF OF THE REMAINING CASES WERE RELATED TO GREEN MINIBUS SERVICES.

ALTOGETHER THERE WERE 470 COMPLAINTS ABOUT BUS SERVICES ..ITH INADEQUATE SERVICES AND STANDARD OF SERVICE BEING THE MAIN SUBJECTS.

COMPLAINTS ABOUT INADEQUATE BUS SERVICES FOR HONG KONG ISLAND MENT UP FROM 42 IN THE LAST QUARTER TO 56. HALF OF THEM WERE RECEIVED FROM RESIDENTS OF THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT.

THERE WAS LITTLE VARIATION IN THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT INADEQUATE BUS SERVICES FOR KOWLOON AND THE NEW TERRITORIES.

A HUNDRED AND TWENTY WERE RECEIVED WHILE 114 WERE RECORDED IN THE LAST QUARTER AND 123 IN THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

COMPLAINTS FROM RESIDENTS OF SHA TIN WERE STILL THE MOST NUMEROUS. THEY MADE UP 30 PER CENT OF THE 120 CASES.

+ INADEQUATE BUS SERVICES MAINLY RELATED TO SERVICES ABOVE THE LEVEL OF PROVISION OR OUTSIDE THE ROUTE NETWORK AGREED WITH THE FRANCHISED BUS COMPANIES. COMPLAINTS ON THESE SUBJECTS WERE TAKEN UP WITH THE TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT OR THE TRANSPORT BRANCH, + MR PANG SAID.

THE STANDARD OF SERVICE OF THE TWO MAJOR FRANCHISED BUS COMPANIES WAS THE SUBJECT OF 235 COMPLAINTS.
