SCHEME TO IMPROVE ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE

SHA TIN RESIDENTS ARE BEING INVITED TO MAKE WRITTEN COMPLAINTS ON ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE TO HELP THE NEW TERRITORIES SERVICES DEPARTMENT TAKE PROMPT REMEDIAL ACTION.

ALTHOUGH THE CURRENT CLEAN HONG KONG CAMPAIGN HAS BROUGHT ABOUT SOME IMPROVEMENT TO THE GENERAL ENVIRONMENT, THE SHA TIN URBAN SERVICES OFFICE OF THE NTSD IS STILL TRYING TO INCREASE CONTACT WITH LOCAL RESIDENTS THROUGH THE WRITTEN COMPLAINTS SCHEME.

THE SCHEME IS AIMED AT IMPROVING THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE SHA TIN PEOPLE ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF KEEPING THEIR LIVING SURROUNDINGS CLEAN, SAID THE URBAN SERVICES OFFICER OF SHA TIN, MR WONG KOON-CHUNG.

*WE ARE GOING TO SEND COPIES OF COMPLAINTS FORMS TO THE RESIDENTS AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO SHOULDER THEIR COMMUNAL RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP MAKE SHA TIN A CLEANER AND BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN, HE CONTINUED.

IT IS HOPED THAT THE EFFORT WOULD GET PEOPLE TO REPORT LITTER PROBLEMS THAT WARRANT IMMEDIATE ACTION, MR WONG SAID.

THOUSANDS OF THE COMPLAINTS FORMS ENTITLED 'DOORS ARE OPEN TO ANY COMPLAINT - KEEP THE SHA TIN ENVIRONMENT CLEAN' ARE NOW ON THEIR WAY TO 99 MUTUAL AID COMMITTEES, 45 VILLAGE REPRESENTATIVE OFFICES, 30 PRIMARY SCHOOLS AND 11 SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT, HE ADDED.

PEOPLE HAVING ANY COMPLAINT ABOUT POOR SANITATION, LITTERING, DRIPPING FROM CHOKED WASTE WATER PIPES AND NOISE NUISANCE FROM AIR CONDITIONER ARE URGED TO JOT DOWN BRIEF DETAILS ON THE FORMS AND RETURN THEM TO THE URBAN SERVICES OFFICE OF SHA TIN AT THE LOWER FLOOR OF LEK YUEN COMMUNITY HALL, LEK YUEN ESTATE.

TO ENLIST ASSISTANCE OF COMMUNITY LEADERS, MR WONG YESTERDAY CALLED ON THE OFFICE OF THE KWAI WO HOUSE MUTUAL AID COMMITTEE AT LEK YUEN ESTATE AND HANDED OVER SEVERAL HUNDRED COPIES OF THE COMPLAINTS FORMS TO ITS CHAIRMAN, MR CHEUNG SAI-SO, FOR DISTRIBUTION.

HE URGED THE MAC MEMBERS TO PLAY THEIR VITAL ROLES AND TO BRING HOME THE MESSAGE TO THEIR FELLOW RESIDENTS TO IMPROVE THEIR SENSE OF BELONGING AND PRIDE IN THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT.
