SUPPLEMENTARY PROVISION APPROVED

Supplementary provision amounting to just over $114 million for
the final quarter of 1972-73 was approved today by the Legislative Council.
Of this sum, Public Works Non-Recurrent accounted for $64.7 million.
Over $26 million of this was required as a result of more rapid progress on
a number of existing projects and a further $12.4 million to meet the increases
in provision under revised estimates.
The major projects included the urban renewal scheme, the new Lai
Chi Kok hospital, Kai Tak airport runway extension and the Castle Peak Road
dual carriageway.
Other items included $6.9 million for employing additional auxiliary
police officers, and $6.5 million for meeting the increased costs of capital
works and purchases for the armed services under the Defence Costs Agreement.
