P.W.D. ENGINEER CHECKING

Sizeable Licensed Areas And Squatter Areas

Checks on potentially dangerous squatter and licensed areas

have been carried out for a number of years but an experienced Public

Works Department engineer is now carrying out further checks on all

sizeable licensed areas and squatter areas, which were affected

during the recent rainstorms. Many areas will have to be checked in

detail and the engineer's report will then be studied in the Resettlement

Department to allow a decision on what needs to be done.

The engineer has already reported on a number of these areas,

and as a result a total of 3,000 persons are being offered public

housing. Some of the families from the Sau Mau Ping Licensed Area

have already been admitted to Sau Mau Ping Estate.
