South China, the defending champions, consolidated their position at the top of the League when, before a huge 35,000 crowd, they defeated Tung Wah by two goals to one in a game that was charged with controversy. drama.. .incident....and gave rise to a new principle in football play to the whistle....and after it!!!

The Hongkong Stadium fairly bristled to the fluctuating fortunes of the two teams but as they left the Stadium thousands of the fans were still arguing many of the happenings in a match in which the referee emerged more important to the final result than either of the two com- peting teams.
