is a question for all who are fascinated by the curious and incalculable world of books: Who enters the year as Britain's most influential author?

Inevitably my answer must be: Sir Arthur Bryant. What a year 1957 has been for him. At the very beginning he caught up in the most remark- able event in the whate history

of British publishing.
