is a question for all who are fascinated by the curious and incalculable world of books: Who enters the year as Britain's most influential author?
Inevitably my answer must be: Sir Arthur Bryant. What a year 1957 has been for him. At the very beginning he caught up in the most remark- able event in the whate history
of British publishing.
จกร
That event took place in the great ballroom of the Dorches- ter hotel in Parkdane. In the front scats the ambassadors listened. Near them the facts of generals and admirals tilted dutifully upwards. Behind, row on row, 1,000 civilians sat hushed and awed.
