The MCC are this year celebrating the bicentenary of Yorkshire. man Thomas Lord of Thirsk, to whose perspicacity and foresight the hallowed Lord's cricket ground owes its origin and present-day preservation.
One special way in which they will commemorate it is by presenting to the Thirsk Cricket Club a curved oak plaque in memory of Lord, made by another well-known Yorkshireman, Robert Thompson. noted wood carver, whose Kilburn. home is but a few miles from Lords.

Never without a thought to the possibilities of making money, Lord kept his eye on the date of the expiry of the lease of his ground. By then he was ready to move, much to the chagrin of the owners, who were all set to extract a higher rent from him.

Matting Wicket Disturbs Australians At Grenada
Grenada, Windward Islands, May 26.
The Windward Islands were sent in to bat today on the first matting wicket that the Australian players en- countered in the West Indies,
then turned down until it was finally agreed to adopt the racing colours of the Earl of Cadogan, big local landowner and first Mayor of Chelsea in 1900.
The Cadogan racing colours were registered in 1879 as Elon Blue, and so they remain today, although the Chelsea Club blue has become a little darker with the passing of the years. The Lord Cadogan of the early days of the club had his town residence, Chelsea House, in Cadogan Place, and played an important part in local government and social affairs.
