Here's An Example Of Reverse' Bid
By OSWALD JACOBY NOUTH'S rebid of two- hearts, in today's hand, was B "reverse," showing a minimum count of 17 points (including dis- tribution).
The normal
method of bidding hearts and diamonds is to show the higher suit first; and bidding them in the reverse order, as in today's hand, shows strength.
The reason is that the reverse bid may well compel North to show a preference for diamonds at the nina-trick level even though North may have a very poor hand, South himself must have a strong hand if he ©20 afford to push the bidding up to so high a level.

EXPERT'S ADVICE TO IN-LAWS
By Garry C. Myers, Ph.D.`
TAVE you any trouble
H
with your in-laws? Do they have any trouble with you? Are you now or will you become a good in-law by and by?
Dr Evelyn Mills Duvall, in a recent book, summarises the various studies on in-laws and lists the findings of her own Investigation,
Dr Duvall presented the following questions to groups of. men and women in various States,
parts of
the United
aggregating 1337 persons:
TWO QUESTIONS
1. In your experience, which in-law relationship has been most difficult?
2. What are three things this most difficult in-law does or does not do that makes him or her difficult?
Or, if there have детет beep problems between you and your in-laws, to what do you attribute your family harmany?
Obviously- these questions emphasised the con in-laws rather than the pro Her additional analysis of 3,683 letters, received in response to a radio broadcast asking listeners to tell,, "Why I Think Mothers- In-Law Are Wonderful People," did not pet much favourable comment.
As Dr Paul Popence points out, this study lacks a. good deal to be desired in scientific research; still no one has come along with anything better.
Dr Duvall Ands that the husband's parents cause more difficulties than do those of the wife.
The mother-in-law was men-. tioned in 37% of the complaints, sister-in-law in 20%, brother- in-law in 5%, father-in-law in 5%, daughter-in-law in 3%. On the other hand, 25% sald, they had no trouble with any of their in-laws.
