1954 Activities Reviewed· IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS DURING THE YEAR

United Nations, Dec. 21.

The United Nations Organisation, which began 1954 under difficult conditions, has seen clear progress made during the recent annual General Assembly towards closing the gap between differing points of view among member countries.

During the first part of the year the great world powers clashed violently in the Disarmament Sub-Committee and the United States and the Soviet Union thrashed at the question of peaceful uses of atomic energy in an exchange of notes.

Resolution votes in debates on two questions have, nevertheless, wound up the issue of an important treaty.

The Palestine affair has been the top item in the Security Council, where the world saw the Soviet Union for the Arst time backing the Arubs in their struggle with Israel.
