1954.

Here's a pleture of a 6,600-guinea racchorse. That's what this yearling colt fetched at the Doncaster Sales.

Why is he rated so highly? The picture shows the good points which appeal- ed to the buyer, American trainer James E. Ryan.

The coll has books to support his pedigree (by. Tudor Minstrel, winner of the 1917 Two Thousand Guineas, out of Temple Bar, daughter of the classic winner Fairway).

He is a supple, active walker, with loose, easy movements. He is free of obvious faults. If there is a weakness 11 is in the muscles above his hock and in the width below the joint.

Says trainer Ryan: These will probably improve with age and exercise."— Express Photo.

Old Friends Talk About Shirai In The Spring

American Golfers In Two Camps Over Millionaire Turning Professional

By HENRY LONGHURST

New York. The sudden action of. Frank Stranahan in turning professional seems to have divided golfers here into two camps, one cynically maintaining that this is the last we shall hear of him and that this once controversial figure will now sink into peace- ful oblivion, the other holding that in view of the fact he did nothing else in life except play golf it was only the decent thing to do and that he will now be more widely respected.

.4

Stranahan is a curious, phenomenon. Brought up in an atmosphere of fabulous luxury with which most people's only contact is via the cinema screen-a friend who has often visited his family home assures me that it is nothing to see a dozen Cadillacs in the garage and denied nothing by a doting and indulgent father, he neither drinks nor smokes and set himself early in life the task of becoming the world's greatest golfor.

Ho went about it with A devotion worthy of archer : cause. To strengthen his musclea he became a weight-lifter of no mean distinction and hrs for some years, I believe, kept a reti of weights in Erland against his periodic visits to our Cham- pionships.
